Gorgeous Lokta paper! Super quality, lovely textures, great colors, wonderful products!
Lokta is one of the world's best quality acid free papers. The Nepalese have been making lokta paper for centuries from the bark of a shrub (Daphne Cannabina or Daphne Papyracea) which grows at a high altitude of 6500 to 9500 feet. The Lokta shrub regenerates after cutting, ensuring that this important economic activity is sustainable and preserves the fragile forest ecology of mountainous Nepal. Of all the handicrafts, paper making has one of the best potential to best support rural and more impoverished areas of Nepal. The shrub grows in communities where jobs are scarce and can be semi-processed before arriving in Kathmandu for finishing touches.
The Nepalese claim that the paper lasts for 1,000 years if protected from sunlight. Their government uses it for archiving. Although we can not make these claims, we can vouch for the amazing feel, texture, quality, colors of the dyes, and product design. Great products to complement your store for customer's gift needs - gift cards, wrapping paper, journals, etc.
TIP: You can use felt tipped markers on Lokta paper - fine or wide nibbed - and it won't bleed on the paper. The paper is that good! Remember to protect your paper from direct sunlight so that colors maintain their brilliance.
